"Superman" Secures Theatrical Release in China

Director James Gunn has confirmed that "Superman" will officially be released in theaters across China, marking a significant milestone for the DC Universe reboot and signaling a renewed collaboration between Hollywood and the world's second-largest film market.

In an era where Chinese regulators have become increasingly selective about approving major Hollywood superhero films, the inclusion of "Superman" on the country's release calendar underscores both the film's global appeal and the strategic importance of international markets. With China's box office generating billions in revenue annually, this decision is expected to boost global earnings potential for "Superman" and contribute to the film's franchise-building ambitions.

"Superman" will be one of the first major DC releases to test audience response in China since the studio began its new chapter under Gunn's leadership. As the film prepares to take flight overseas, its performance will be closely analyzed by industry watchers, serving as a key indicator of both DC's future trajectory and Hollywood's evolving relationship with Chinese audiences.

The film stars David Corenswet ("Twisters," "Hollywood") in the dual role of Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel") as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult (the "X-Men" movies, "Juror #2") as Lex Luthor. The film also stars Edi Gathegi ("For All Mankind"), Anthony Carrigan ("Barry," "Gotham"), Nathan Fillion (the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films, "The Suicide Squad"), Isabela Merced ("Alien Romulus"), Skyler Gisondo ("Licorice Pizza," "Booksmart"), Sara Sampaio ("At Midnight"), María Gabriela de Faría ("The Moodys"), Wendell Pierce ("Selma," "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan"), Alan Tudyk ("Andor"), Pruitt Taylor Vince ("Bird Box") and Neva Howell ("Greedy People").

"Superman" is executive produced by Nikolas Korda, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars Winther. Behind the camera, Gunn is joined by frequent collaborators, including director of photography Henry Braham, production designer Beth Mickle, costume designer Judianna Makovsky and composer John Murphy, along with editors William Hoy ("The Batman"), Jason Ballantine (the "IT" films, "The Flash") and Craig Alpert ("Deadpool 2," "Blue Beetle").

"Superman" is slated to premiere in China on July 11th, 2025.
