Stolen Superman Statue Returned to Australia Theater

by Neil Cole

A promotional Superman statue which was recently stolen from the Shenton Performing Arts Centre in Geelong, Victoria has been recovered and returned to it's rightful owners.

The statue had been placed on top of the theater building to promote an upcoming production of the 1966 Broadway musical, "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman!" presented by the Theatre of the Damned production company.

The theft is reported to have been committed by a teenage boy who turned himself into police along with the statue which had sustained significant damage requiring a large amount of gaffer tape to be used to repair his arms and head.

Superman is now proudly displayed in a heroic flying position on the theatre roof and morale amongst the theatre group has been boosted with his return.

"We had so many people putting up posts about him; we didn't think we'd get him back," stated Tony Dahl, Theatre of the Damned owner. "It's just cool to have it up there and to know people are looking. Being an amateur threatre company and relying on ticket sales, he does a good job up there."

The production of "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman!" will take place Friday, May 10th through Saturday, May 18th at the Shenton Performing Arts Centre. Tickets are available at TryBooking.com.
