Milly Alcock Hopes DC Studios' "Supergirl" Encourages Girls to Embrace Their Imperfect Side

Posted on March 15, 2026 by Neil Cole

As anticipation builds for DC Studios' upcoming "Supergirl" film, star Milly Alcock is opening up about the empowering message she hopes audiences - especially young girls - will take away from the movie.

Alcock recently shared her thoughts in an in-depth feature published in Issue 5 of Beyond Noise Magazine, where she graces the cover in an extensive photo shoot accompanying a wide-ranging interview about the highly anticipated DC Studios project. The conversation also includes insights from the film's screenwriter, Ana Nogueira, offering readers a deeper look at the creative vision behind the new cinematic interpretation of Kara Zor-El.

Speaking about the character and the themes she hopes resonate with viewers, Alcock emphasized that the story embraces imperfection and authenticity. "I think young girls should walk away from the film knowing that it's ok to be a bit bad, and messy," Alcock said, highlighting the film's message that heroes don't need to be flawless to be powerful.

The upcoming film, directed by Craig Gillespie, is inspired by the acclaimed comic storyline 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow'. The story presents a different perspective on the legendary Kryptonian hero, focusing on Kara's emotional journey and the challenges that shaped her before she arrived on Earth.

Unlike her cousin Superman, who was raised in Smallville by the Kent family, this version of Kara Zor-El endured a far more traumatic upbringing on a fragment of Krypton, a background that informs her more rebellious and complicated personality. The film aims to explore those experiences while presenting a character who is powerful, imperfect, and still discovering her place in the universe.

Written by Nogueira and produced under the leadership of DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, "Supergirl" will be part of the studio's evolving DC Universe slate. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 26, 2026, continuing the next chapter of DC's interconnected storytelling on the big screen.
