James Gunn Teases Mr. Handsome's Return in "Man of Tomorrow"

James Gunn has teased that the character Mr. Handsome will return in "Man of Tomorrow", the forthcoming installment in DC Studios' evolving cinematic slate. The confirmation came via a recent social media post by Gunn, where he all but confirmed the character's return with an image from the set of a placard reading "Mr. Handsome Fan Club" along with a bust of the character's head.

Mr. Handsome remains one of the more unconventional figures within the DCU's developing mythology. The character was portrayed in "Superman" (2025) by Trevor Newlin and was created in a petri dish during early experiments conducted by Lex Luthor in his formative years. Created in an attempt to engineer life, Mr. Handsome endures as a flawed but meaningful creature who serves as the chauffeur and transport operator for Lex's pocket-universe prison.

"Man of Tomorrow" continues the story established in "Superman" (2025) and is expected to further define the direction of the newly launched DC Universe. Early plot details for the film have revealed that Superman will face off against Brainiac (Lars Eidinger), which results in a reluctant and complicated partnership with his arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) in order to combat the escalating threat.

David Corenswet reprises his role as tha Man of Steel, anchoring a narrative that blends large-scale spectacle with character-driven conflict. With Brainiac positioned as a central antagonist, the film is expected to expand the scope of the DCU beyond Earth while maintaining a grounded exploration of responsibility, power, and identity.

Production on "Man of Tomorrow" is currently underway as DC Studios continues to build its interconnected storytelling framework. The film is scheduled to premiere on July 9th, 2027 and will serve as a key chapter in the "Gods and Monsters" phase, reinforcing narrative continuity while introducing new dimensions to its central characters.
