Director James Gunn has taken to social media to address various rumors concerning the primary villain in "Superman" which have ranged from the iconic DC Comics villain Bizarro to the evil alternate dimension version of the Man of Steel, Ultraman.
"The primary protagonist of Superman is, shockingly, Superman," stated Gunn in his post. "The main villain of Superman is, shockingly, Lex Luthor. I don't know where all the stuff is coming from that it's something other than this. There are so many stories coming out every day it's difficult to deal with and everytime I strike something down I'm giving it attention. So, I'll say again, don't believe anything unless you see it HERE (& why would you want to know everything before the movie comes out anyway?"
"Superman" tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, MarÃa Gabriela De FarÃa as The Engineer, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and model Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.
"Superman" is currently scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 11th, 2025.
