Craig Gillespie in Talks to Direct "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow"

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that director Craig Gillespie is currently in talks to helm "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" which will be part of the upcoming slate of films from DC Studios.
Gillespie has previously directed such films as "Fright Night" which was an reboot of the original 1985 cult-classic, "Cruella" (2021) based on the iconic Disney villain, and "Dumb Money" (2023) which is based on the 2021 book "The Antisocial Network" by author Ben Mezrich and chronicles the GameStop short squeeze of January, 2021.
"Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" will star actress Milly Alcock in the title role after beating out both Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly who were also in contention for the part. Alcock is best known for her role of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the HBO "Game of Thrones" spinoff series "House of the Dragon". She has also starred in such Australian television series as "Upright", "The Gloaming", and "Reckoning".
In early 2023, director James Gunn spoke to reporters about the Supergirl film stating, "We will see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, raised on a rock, a chip off of Krypton, and who watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life and then come to Earth."
"Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" will be based on a script by actress and playwright Ana Nogueira who was also recently tapped to write the script for a live-action "Teen Titans" film. A release date for "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" has yet to be announced.
