Director James Gunn has announced that "Saturday Night Live" alum Beck Bennett has been cast in the role of Steve Lombard in the 2025 "Superman" movie.
Gunn shared the announcement on his official Threads social media account stating, "Welcome to the DCU, Steve Lombard!".
Bennett was a cast member on "SNL" for eight seasons, joining the show for its 39th season in 2013, and leaving at the end of its 46th season in 2021. Prior to SNL, he performed in AT&T's "It's Not Complicated" commercials, in which he interviewed children, and produced sketch videos with the comedy group Good Neighbor. He also hosted the YouTube show Theatre of Life.
The DC Comics character of Steve Lombard is a sports reporter for the Daily Planet who is often portrayed as having a brash personality and playing practical jokes on his co-workers; especially Clark Kent.
"Superman" tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
In addition to Bennett as Steve Lombard, the film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, and Neva Howell as Martha Kent.
"Superman" is currently scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 11th, 2025.
