March 28, 2013: Lana Lang Returns to Smallville in 'Season 11' Comic
by Neil A. Cole
For the first time since disappearing in 2009, the character of Lana Lang from the hit CW tv series 'Smallville' will make her return in the 'Season 11' digital comic book series.
The character, portrayed by actress Kristen Kreuk, was forced to leave Metropolis in the season 8 episode "Requiem" after she saved Metropolis by absorbing a kryptonite bomb thanks to a special suit developed by Lex Luthor which gave her super powers. The resulting radiation made it impossible for her to be near Clark Kent and she flew off into the proverbial sunset and out of his life.
"Since then Clark has not only gotten over Lana, but he has moved on with his life. He got engaged to Lois Lane and became Superman," said Season 11 writer Bryan Q. Miller (also a veteran of the TV show's writing staff) in a statement to TV Guide. "A lot has happened in Lana's absence."
Lana's return will be featured in the April 5th storyline "Valkyrie" which features Lois Lane on assignment in the Congo for the Daily Planet to investigate a mysterious vigilante referred to as the 'Angel of the Plateau.'
Miller states that "there's some understandable awkwardness between the two" given their shared romantic connections to Clark. "But they also wind up in the thick of things fairly quickly. There's some catch-up and some action and some girl power and it's a good time."
Miller goes on to reveal that "we will see a villain from Smallville days past" in the second chapter.
Spring's main story arc, entitled "Argo," will begin on April 12th and feature Superman and Booster Gold traveling to the 31st Century to see the Legion of Superheroes. New chapters of "Valkyrie" will appear between installments of "Argo." New chapters of Smallville Season 11 appear online each Friday (and later collected in printed editions).
