October 3, 2015: Royal Canadian Mint Announces New Series of DC Comics Silver Coins
The Royal Canadian Mint has announced a new series of silver coins featuring the iconic characters of the DC Comics Universe.
The DC Comics Originals series incorporates popular super heroes (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman), fan favourites (Batgirl, Nightwing, Wonder Girl) and more obscure heroes/villains (Mr. Mxylptlk, Quex-Ul) with all the respect and devotion that only the Royal Canadian Mint provides.
The first phase of the series will feature Justice League members Superman and Supergirl in full color on four 1/2 oz. fine silver coins titled "Gauntlet," "Strength," "Unity," and "Legacy".
Traditional engraving and finishes meet selective color and cutting-edge laser engraving, give each coin depth and the illusion of movement.
Each limited edition coin will retail for $42.99 (USD) and are only available for sale in Canada and the United States. Each comes enclosed in a protective capsule and unique packaging that recreates the look of a well-loved comic book - an added nod to the medium that first introduced these characters, and also a fun element that makes this series a one-of-a-kind collecting experience.
