September 28, 2014: "Batman v. Superman" Extra: 'Fans Can Expect to be Blown Away'

Posted by Neil Cole

MLive.com has scored an interview with an anonymous bartender/waiter from Flint, MI who recently completed his work as an extra in director Zack Snyder's "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice."

Here's an excerpt from the interview in which the extra discusses how memorable the experience on set was:

What was the experience like filming scenes for "Batman v. Superman" and your interactions with other extras, cast members and crew members?

I have done commercial work, stage work and performance work, but have never seen anything on this scale. There were 200-plus people involved in the shoot I took place in. That's pretty small because this was a situation where everyone wasn't used at once. People came (as part of the crew) knowing what to do and that helped. It really helped and was fairly easy — if you were willing to listen.

You had to be willing to do what was necessary. If you did that, crew members were willing to work with you. There was a real sense of professionalism and the message: 'You're either going to get on board with this opportunity or you're going to jump ship.' They didn't have any time to waste and they were moving, moving, moving. When they say 'We need you on the set!,' you have to get on the set. You run to the set, you don't walk. They don't really tell you that, but I understood.

What do you think fans should expect with "Batman v. Superman" once it's released?

I know comic books, and slowly became a fan of Zack Snyder. I think there are going to a few little things (in the film) where fans are going to be like 'What?' But I think they'll understand later. And I think sometimes nerds take things too seriously, you know, when it comes to these movies. This is coming from a half-nerd, a half-geek.

With these types of films, you can't take them too seriously. I think "Man of Steel" was a great reboot, and Zack Snyder did a great, great job. And I came up with Christopher Reeve (as Superman). Just even as an aesthetic look, (Reeve) looked like Superman. But now there's the technology with these movies, so I think with Batman v. Superman, based on the Frank Miller stories, I think it's going to be a great movie.

I'm hoping that it blows "Avatar" out of the water. Avatar is a beautiful movie, but it's the same old story. I want it to be knocked off the top, and I think fans should expect to be blown away (with "Batman v Superman") and damn near have tears in their eyes.
