September 26, 2016: Vintage Copy of "Superman #1" on Display at Philadelphia Toy Show

Posted by Neil Cole

A rare vintage copy of "Superman No. 1" valued at $100,000 will be on display at the upcoming Philadelphia Vintage Toy Buying Show which takes place September 28th - October 2nd.

A 1.8 graded copy of the rare comic - which retells Superman's origin and features a pin-up of the Man of Steel on the back cover - was featured in Heritage Auctions' "Comics & Comic Art Signature" auction in 2015 and sold for $31,070.

"I have no plans to sell it for a while," states owner Joel Magee. "It's like one of those magical life experiences. You can go your whole life without even seeing one of these, let alone buy one. It's taken me 40 years."

"Superman No. 1" has seen its Overstreet value triple, or in high grades, even quadruple in recent years and is currently the third most valuable comic book title following "Action Comics No. 1" (first appearance of Superman) and "Detective Comics No. 27" (first appearance of Batman).
