An original copy of "Superman No. 1" signed by co-creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster has sold at auction for $31,070.
The rare comic - which retells Superman's origin and features a pin-up of the Man of Steel on the back cover - was featured in Heritage Auctions' recent "Comics & Comic Art Signature" auction and has seen its Overstreet value triple, or in high grades, even quadruple in recent years.
This copy was graded 1.8 by the CBCS (Comic Book Certification Services) and, in addition to Siegel and Shuster, features signatures by Joanne Siegel (the original model for Lois Lane) and actor Kirk Alyn who portrayed the Man of Steel in two Superman serials in the 1940's.
"Superman No. 1" is currently the third most valuable comic book title following "Action Comics No. 1" (first appearance of Superman) and "Detective Comics No. 27" (first appearance of Batman).
