August 22, 2016: "DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year" Review

Posted by Neil Cole

It's time for the annual Hero of the Year ceremony and the students of Super Hero High compete for the top prize. But the festivities take a turn when Dark Opal targets the heroes and steals some of their most valued possessions to form the ultimate weapon! It's up to the students at Super Hero High to spring into action! But can Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl and Bumblebee stop Dark Opal and his mysterious partner-in-crime to save the day?

"DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year" provides an entertaining and action-packed storyline which keeps the audience emotionally vested from beginning to end. The main characters are well developed and light hearted while at the same time not overly complex with a decent representation of diversity.

The creative team have done a wonderful job on the art direction, writing, and dialogue which results in a film that is not overly violent or scary and is perfect for the younger crowd or young at heart.

The cast features some of the top voice actors in the industry including Grey Griffin as Wonder Woman, Anais Fairweather as Supergirl, Mae Whitman as Batgirl/Barbara Gordon, Tara Strong as both Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy, Teala Dunn as Bumblebee, and Stephanie Sheh as Katana.

All-in-all, "DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year" is a perfect entry into the library of DC Comics based animated films and provides an excellent chapter in the on-going "DC Super Hero Girls" storyline. This is one title that you will definitely want to add to your home theater collection.

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment, "DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year" was distributed by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) on August 9th on Digital HD and will be available on DVD on August 23rd (SRP $19.98).
