All Star Productions' have announced that their UK presentation of the musical comedy "It's A Bird... It's A Plane... It's Superman!" will be featured at the Leicester Square Theatre next year.
The production, which premiered in March, 2014 at the Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre in Walthamstow, north-east London, will begin previews on February 10, 2015 before officially opening on February 13, 2015 and continuing its short engagement through to February 21, 2015.
Synopsis:
'It's A Bird... It's A Plane... It's Superman!, is the tale of Superman's efforts to defeat the vengeful Dr. Abner Sedgwick, a ten-time Nobel Prize-losing scientist, who seeks to destroy the world's symbol of good. Superman also comes into romantic conflict with Max Mencken, a columnist for the Daily Planet newspaper who is intent on revealing Superman's true identity, as he resents Lois Lane's attraction to Superman.'
The musical features a tongue-in-cheek script by Robert Benton and David Newman (who went on to write "Bonnie and Clyde" and the blockbuster film, "Superman - The Movie") and a fabulous, much-lauded score by "Bye Bye Birdie's Charles Strouse and Lee Adams".
Performers include Craig Berry (Superman), Michelle LaFortune (Lois), Paul Harwood (Max), Sarah Kennedy (Sydney), Matthew Ibbotson (Sedgewick), Charlie Vose (Jim), Andrew Truluck (Perry), Joseph Murray (Father Ling), Thomas Widdop (Fan Po Ling), Susanna Porter (Tai Ling), Alexander Bartles (Don Ling), Jade Nelson (Ming Foo Ling), Charlotte Debattista (Ensemble), and Danielle Black (Ensemble).
The musical will be directed by Randy Smartnick, with musical direction by Aaron Clingham and choreography by Kate McPhee.
The original production was directed by Harold Prince; choreographed by Ernest Flatt and starred Jack Cassidy, Bob Holiday and Linda Lavin. It opened at Alvin Theatre on March 29, 1966 and ran for 129 performances.
