August 16, 2013: 2nd Annual Smallville Superfest Underway in Plano, IL

Superman fans the world over are invited to attend the second annual Smallville Superfest which is currently taking place in Plano, IL this weekend.

The town was chosen to double as Superman's hometown of Smallville in the recent blockbuster film, "Man of Steel."

The festival, which celebrates the spirit of Superman and all he stands for, takes place 5:30PM - 11:00PM August 16th; 10:00AM - 11PM Aug. 17th; and 1:00PM - 3:00PM August 18th.

Activities include a DJ, bands, a Super Kids Carnival, and the new Smallville Museum which features various props and memorabilia from the Smallville sequences filmed in Plano during the "Man of Steel" production.

On Saturday, you can try your luck fishing with Plano mayor Bob Hausler from 10:00AM - 1:00PM Saturday at Foli Park on South Hale Street. Also, the Little Rock-Fox Fire Department will host water fights.

The older crowd will have the opportunity to fly like Superman down Main Street on the Zuper Zip Line from 3:00PM - 7:00PM on Saturday.

The second annual Andrew Kuebrich Hero Run 5K will take place at 8:30AM on Sunday as well as the Superfest Pancake Breakfast from 8:00AM - 11:00AM at the Little Rock Fox Fire Department. A community worship service will be at 10:00AM on the main stage, with an open jam session to follow.

The weekend is capped with a Superfest Parade at 1:00PM on Sunday. The parade route will go from Plano High School to Abe Street to Hale Street to Main Street to Ben Street and back to Plano High School. Entries will include tractors, classic cars, novelty vehicles, safety and public service vehicles from local communities, marching bands, local businesses and organizations.

Kids can touch the bigger vehicles in the Superfest parking lot on John Street after the parade until 3 p.m.
