July 24, 2015: "Boys of Steel: The Creators of Superman" Author Discussion

The Brookfield, CT Library will host a special discussion on the publication, "Boys of Steel: The Creators of Superman" featuring author Marc Tyler Nobleman on Monday, August 3rd at 7:00PM (EST).

Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two high school misfits in Depression-era Cleveland, were more like Clark Kent--meek, mild, and myopic--than his secret identity, Superman. Both boys escaped into the worlds of science fiction and pulp magazine adventure tales. Jerry wrote his own original stories and Joe illustrated them. In 1934, the summer they graduated from high school, they created a superhero who was everything they were not. It was four more years before they convinced a publisher to take a chance on their Man of Steel in a new format--the comic book.

Nobleman will also be discussing his book "Bill the Boy Wonder: The Secret Co-Creator of Batman" which covers the story of Bill Finger who, in addition to Bob Kane, was instrumental in the creation of Batman from concept to costume to character.

The event is free and open to the public for ages 10 and up. Registration is required and can be done on-line, by phone at 203-755-6241, or in person at the library checkout desk.
