Posted by Neil Cole

The City of Woolstock, Iowa have honored former "Adventures of Superman" star George Reeves on the town's official welcome sign as the birthplace of the late actor.

Reeves was born George Keefer Brewer in Woolstock on January 5th, 1914 to Helen Lescher Brewer and Don Brewer. The family lived for roughly two years in a small bungalow home on what is now Cecilia Street until the Brewer's separation and eventual divorce..

An official unveiling of the Woolstock welcome sign, which is located on the edge of town, is scheduled for late August/early September following additional work currently being done such as framing, landscaping, and lighting.

In addition to the new welcome sign, the residents of Woolstock have celebrated Reeves' life over the years with such events as a Memorial Festival in both 2006 & 2007 and a 100th birthday celebration which featured events various events taking place from January through June of 2014.

Sadly, attempts to raise enough money to restore Reeves' former residence in Woolstock to its original condition did not succeed and regrettable decision was made to tear down the home in 2011 due to safety issues.
