May 22, 2013: "Action Comics No. 1" Issue Discovered in Wall

by Neil A. Cole

Home remodeler David Gonzalez recently stumbled across an original copy of "Action Comics No. 1" while gutting the walls of a Elbow Lake, Minnesota home for renovation.

The extremely coveted issue hit newsstands in 1938 and, of course, features the first appearance of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster's iconic character, Superman.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that Gonzalez found the comic amid old newspapers used to insulate a wall of the residence. Unfortunately, the issue's back cover became ripped during the excitement of the discovery which resulted in it's condition being graded at a 1.5 on a 10-point scale.

"I am a humble working guy, so I didn't get too excited when I found it with old newspapers stuffed in the walls," said Gonalez in regard to the comic being damaged. "Money won't buy you happiness."

The rare comic is currently up for bids through June 11th on ComicConnect.com. As of this writing, it has already attracted 31 bids including one for $107,333.

In prior years, a copy of "Action Comics No. 1" which was graded at a 9.0 sold for $2,161,000.
