May 9, 2016: SyFy Officially Gives "Krypton" Pilot a Green Light

by Neil Cole

The SyFy Channel has officially given the Superman inspired TV series "Krypton" a pilot order.

The series will be set two generations before the destruction of Superman's home planet Krypton and will "follow Superman's grandfather - whose House of El was ostracized and shamed - as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos."

"Krypton is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe," stated Bill McGoldrick, Executive Vice President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. "In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman's home to show how the timeless legend began."

The show will be executive produced by David S. Goyer ("The Dark Knight", "Da Vinci's Demons") alongside Damian Kindler ("Sleepy Hollow") and Colm McCarthy ("Peaky Blinders") who will direct and co-executive produce the series pilot. The pilot script will feature an original story written by Goyer and Ian Goldberg ("Once Upon a Time").

"Krypton" is expected to premiere on the SyFy Channel later this year.
