April 21, 2015: DC Superheroes Descend on LA for World Record Event
Actor/writer and good friend of the Superman Super Site, Jeffrey Breslauer attended the recent World Record Attempt held by DC Comics in Los Angeles, CA and has filed the following report on the event:
When I was asked by my friend, Neil Cole, to cover the DC Super Hero World Record Event in L. A., I expected it to be fun; sort of like a condensed and intense version of the Metropolis Superman Celebration. I got what I expected, and a little bit more! With costumed characters milling around in a waiting area, it reminded me of a comics version of a hit TV show: Earth's Got Talent!!
It seemed that there were a couple of crossover characters making appearances, as well! One, in particular, was Hancock! However; due to his not being a DC character and especially his destructive track record, he was carefully asked to leave!
Characters walked a virtual red carpet, and some were even interviewed for the media covering the event. There were "official" members of the Justice league, shown below, as part of the world-wide touring event, which gave the fans opportunities to pose with their favorites, and then getting the finished photo as a souvenir of the festivities.
Throughout the event, fans were able to enjoy screenings of the latest scenes from Brave and Bold, Teen Titans, the Justice League Lego movie, and, as a finale, the new teaser trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
For inclusion into the Guinness World Record, participants needed to be dressed, head to toe, in an approved DC super hero costume from any period of comics, television or cinema history; and gather within the roped off holding area for a period of five minutes, counted down by officials.
Sadly, the event lasted a mere two hours, and once the record book officials were satisfied, "super heroes" began to scatter. As with the MSC, I wanted it to go on! Now, my appetite is whetted, and I wait, anxiously, for June!!
