April 7, 2014: Confirmed - Superman & Captain America Will Face Off in 2016

Last month, a rumor ignited on-line that Warner Bros.' follow-up to "Man of Steel" would go head-to-head at the box office with Marvel Studios' "Captain America 3" in 2016.

Now comes official word from Marvel that the rumors are true; "Captain America 3" will indeed open on May 6, 2016 which is the same date Warner Bros. has set for the release of "Batman vs. Superman."

Marvel's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" premiered this past weekend and garnered a new April opening record with $96.2 million at the box office.

In light of this confirmation, it remains to be seen if Warner Bros. will move the release date of the "Man of Steel" follow-up once again (which was originally set for July 17, 2015) or hunker down and prepare for an unprecedented showdown at the box office in 2016.

The yet-to-be-officially-titled film will star Henry Cavill, reprising his role as Superman/Clark Kent, Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, and Diane Lane as Martha 'Ma' Kent.
