March 20, 2015: Owain Yeoman Joins "Supergirl" Cast as Vartox

Actor Owain Yeoman has been cast in the role of DC Comics supervillain Vartox in the upcoming CBS television series "Supergirl."

According to Comic Book Resources, the former star of such shows as "The Mentalist" and "Extant" will be featured in the pilot episode of the highly anticipated series.

"Owain Yeoman plays longtime DC Comics villain Vartox, an alien convict, who has been hiding on Earth for the past twelve years. After Supergirl's emergence on Earth, Vartox seeks her out to ascertain her identity and do battle with her."

Vartox bears a striking resemblance to Scottish actor Sean Connery and was created by Cary Bates and Curt Swan. He first appeared in Superman vol. 1 #281 in November, 1974.

Yeoman will star alongside Melissa Benoist as Kara/Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chlyer Leigh as Supergirl's sister Alex, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw and Jeremy Jordan as Winslow Schott.

Former Superman alumni stars Dean Cain and Helen Slater will also star in yet-to-be-confirmed roles.

"Supergirl" will focus on Kara Zor-El who, born on the planet Krypton, escaped amid its destruction years ago. And since arriving on Earth, she's been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

The series will be executively-produced & written by "Arrow" and "Flash" executive producer Greg Berlanti and "New Normal's" Ali Adler along with Sarah Schechter.
