Deadline.com reports that Chyler Leigh ("Grey's Anatomy") and David Harewood ("Homeland") are the latest actors to join the cast of the upcoming CBS TV series "Supergirl."
Leigh plays Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Kara’s confident foster sister. Fascinated by Kara’s powers from a young age, Alex developed a lifelong obsession with science which inspired her to become a doctor.
Harewood plays Hank Henshaw, a onetime CIA agent who now runs the Department of Extra-Normal Operations, which tracks extraterrestrial threats on the planet Earth. In the DC Comics universe, Henshaw is a villain who eventually becomes Cyborg Superman.
Leigh and Harewood will co-star alongside actress Melissa Benoist in the lead role of Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, "Nashville" star Laura Benanti as Kara's birth mother Alura Zor-El, actor Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, and former "Ally McBeal" star Calista Flockhart as Catherine "Cat" Grant.
"Supergirl" will focus on Kara Zor-El who, born on the planet Krypton, escaped amid its destruction years ago. And since arriving on Earth, she's been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.
The series will be executively-produced & written by "Arrow" and "Flash" executive producer Greg Berlanti and "New Normal's" Ali Adler along with Sarah Schechter.
"Supergirl" will be the fifth based on a DC Comics character currently airing on television including "Gotham" (FOX), "The Flash" (CW Network), "Arrow" (CW Network), and "Constantine" (NBC).
