Children's Theatre of Cincinnati to Present Superman Musical Production

by Neil Cole

The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati will present a production of "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman" from October 6th - 15th at the Taft Theatre in Cincinnati, OH as the kick-off to their 2018/2019 season.

With a tongue-in-cheek script by Robert Benton and David Newman (who went on to write Bonnie and Clyde and the blockbuster Superman film) and a fabulous, much-lauded score by Bye Bye Birdie's Charles Strouse and Lee Adams, the musical pokes fun at the American superhero whose unwavering morality, fidelity, and loyalty make him a bit of a dull cracker.

The original production was directed by Harold Prince; choreographed by Ernest Flatt and starred Jack Cassidy, Bob Holiday and Linda Lavin. It opened at Alvin Theatre on March 29, 1966 and ran for 129 performances.

Working with DC Comics and theatrical licensing agent Tams-Witmark, the theatre's creative team have adapted the classic production into a Theatre for Young Audiences version.

Single tickets range in price from $10 - $30 and will be available beginning August 31st. For information, visit the Children's Theatre website or call 513-569-8080, ext. 10.
