Pre-Snyderverse Concept Art of Superman's Black Costume Revealed

by Neil Cole

Recently deleted footage from "Justice League" revealed a first look at Superman's black costume but the suit almost made an original live-action debut years ago in the failed "Justice League: Mortal" film.

Concept artist Matt Hatton worked on the movie and has taken to Instagram to reveal artwork featuring his version of the Man of Steel's black suit along with a caption revealing that Superman is wearing the costume while hovering over Bruce Wayne's funeral following his "death" as a result of a battle between the two superheroes:

"Justice League: Mortal" was originally scheduled to premiere in 2009 with George Miller directing. The film would have starred Armie Hammer as Batman/Bruce Wayne, D.J. Cotrona as Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman/Princess Diana of Themyscira, Adam Brody as The Flash/Barry Allen, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter/J'onn J'onzz, Teresa Palmer as Talia al Ghul, Zoe Kazan as Iris Allen, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman/Arthur Curry, Jay Baruchel as Maxwell Lord, Common as John Stewart/Green Lantern, and Anton Yelchin as The Flash/Wally West.

Production on the project was eventually shut down due to the writer's strike and concerns about Australian tax incentives.
