In 2011, DC launched the New 52 reboot and with it came a complete redesign of Superman's classic costume which was replaced with a Kryptonian battle armor uniform and the removal of the iconic red trunks.
However, the most recent DC solicitations had artist John Romita Jr. promising a "new costume, new powers and new friends and enemies" would be unveiled in the upcoming Superman #38 by Geoff Johns.
Now, Bleeding Cool has posted the following cover for Superman #39 which provides a detailed look at the Romita Jr.'s newly designed costume:
Obvious changes to the redesigned costume include the removal of the high collar, fingerless gloves and, while still retaining some aspects of the Kryptonian armor, there are much fewer lines on the costume itself.
The Man of Steel's boots have reverted back to a more classic look and the belt features the return of the oval yellow buckle.
Even with these changes, there appears to be no sign of the return of the iconic red trunks to the overall costume anytime in the near future.
Superman #38 is set to hit newstands and comic book stores on Wednesday, February 4th.
